In your classes you have been learning about animals and their habitats.
In the library this past week, we read a book, Elephants Can Paint Too!, a story about some special people and their plan to save elephants as many of their habitats are being destroyed.
Your job today is to choose an endangered animal, investigate it's habitat and come up with a plan for protecting it and its habitat.
You will not be working alone!
First, choose a partner to work with.
Next, look through the resources your teacher has available in the classroom.
Visit the library, we have many great books that will help you in your quest.
Don't forget to look up additional information on the internet.
Share what you learn! Post helpful websites you find.
Here's some sources to get you started!
Use our school online catalog to look up books, http://destiny.mdusd.k12.ca.us/
Hint: Books about habitats are located in the 577's and books about animals and their
habitats can be found in the 591 section of the library.
One of my favorite websites: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngkids/
They have a great page on habitats!
What can you find? Need help? Don't forget we are learning together, so share what you know!
Final poster projects will be displayed in the library!
Good luck!

Welcome to The Opened Book!
Books, wonderful books. They are everywhere...libraries are filled with them, stores are created solely to sell them, you can find them in grocery stores, buy them online, we give them as gifts, they sit on our coffee tables, our shelves are crammed with them, and most of us have one or two on our bedside tables. But, for all the books surrounding us, how many ever get opened?
While books are nice to look at, the real magic comes from within. Books can teach us and get us to think in ways we never have before. Books can make us laugh or cry, they entertain us. Books can open up the world and all its possibilities to us. So, let's dust off those covers and see what we can discover together in the opened book...
